Hamas: Optimism around potential hostage deal ‘does not reflect reality’

A senior Hamas official told the Al Jazeera news network that “the atmosphere of optimism, as if there was a rapprochement for a prisoner exchange agreement, does not reflect reality.”

According to him, Prime Minister Netanyahu is evading the main demands by Hamas – the cessation of fighting, a full withdrawal of forces and the return of the displaced to the northern Gaza Strip.

“The continued killing of the Palestinian people through starvation in the northern Gaza Strip is a crime of mass destruction and threatens the entire negotiation process,” he added.
